This week, our charts will focus on the topic of smart home entertainment, beginning today by looking at current figures for ownership and purchase intention.

Entertainment is the most established stream of smart home products to date. These devices (such as wireless speakers or smart TVs) emerge as the most desired of all the smart home products tracked by GlobalWebIndex, with 75% of internet users interested in the category.

Half of internet users say they currently own one of these smart entertainment devices, with affluent consumers around 20% more likely to do so. 1 in 4 say they plan to purchase a device from this category in the next 6 months, but with income having no significant impact on this intention figure.

As other smart device streams become more established, and the want for a connected smart home increases among consumers globally, ownership figures should continue to trend upwards. And these devices will only become more appealing to consumers as their capabilities diversify and become more useful, like LG’s 2018 models with built-in Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa compatibility, for example.
